A Long Time Ago

Golden pastures of plenty,
Is where it all started out.
A nation free for all to roam.
But the land is so dry,
Minds are changing now,
For that was a long time ago.

People who thought alike,
Came about, preaching peace.
Protestors of every age came to show.
That when we stand by our side,
Things get done, to say the least.
But that was a long time ago.

Nowadays it seems to me,
That there's a hungry mouth to feed,
Every which way the wind does blow.
We used to give what we could,
Now we don't, but know we should,
For that was a long, long, long time ago.

I've taken it all for granted,
But things change to me.
If I only knew then, what I now know.
For the kid I used to be,
Was so blind and naïve,
But, that was a long time ago.
