The Fall

I was the rage in my vagabond days,
when pleasure and youth were king.
Threw out the rules in a circus of fools,
where I held the center ring.
I was much too self-consumed
to ever ask who hung the moon.
I must have been drunk when you called.
I didn't realize that you loved me,
that would have changed it all.

I kicked around east with these jugglers and thieves
and daughters of earthly fire.
On any excuse, how we twisted the truth
to fit with our own desire.
Sang for my supper now and then;
all of my ideas and friends
soon met their own waterloo.
I never realized that you loved me,
I would have sung for you.

My life was a journey of jagged lines...
like branches, like lightning, like bloodshot eyes.
Made my way through a land of lies,
waiting for something to change.

I broke my spine in the fall of all time,
blind in my foolishness,
alone as it gets in a life of regrets,
lost in the wilderness.
When my pride and hope were gone,
you were waiting open-armed
to tell me what I never knew;
I never realized that you loved me
I would have loved you too.
