King Blue

King Blue, he awoke one morn and called for his only son.
this wild haired Delta boy who screamed when he was young.
King said, "You become a man and its time you're on your own."
People came from miles around to lay at the old King's throne.

They said, "King blue you're a man, you are a mountain,
God smiles on your time.
King blue, like the river flows from the fountain,
we're your children, you'll never die."

Now the son had hands of lightning and his fame, it quickly grew.
People fell to madness, forgot about old King Blue.
He'd sit in the castle night, neath a wall of junkyard cars.
He'd find him a tasty lick and he'd play to the snakes and stars.

Now the Delta's big and wild, and the son he lost his way.
Some say when the old man died the people cried in shame.
The laid him down with a bayou prayer, and at night when the moon is grey
You can hear their voices rise from the mist of the old man's grave.
