Raised in Heaven

Shes tying back her apron
in the kitchen after school.
Says pour a glass of milk, hon, these cookies need some time to cool.
My mama taught me how to pray
and she wiped every tear away.
Yeah I was raised in heaven long ago and far away.

He'd read the evening paper, look up from in his easy chair.
"You wanna play some catch boy? There's still a little light out there."
My daddy worked from night till dawn;
and still he taught us right from wrong.
Yeah I was raised in heaven and ran through clouds without a care.

She wore a cotton dress, yellow with white checks,
and everything was 'ma'am' and 'please.'
He had a 38, pearl handle with chrome plate -
he took it from the Japanese.

I grew up true and headstrong and went into my life alone.
I found a girl I fell for, and we set up a home-sweet-home.
It did not take us long to find
the world had simply lost it's mind -
but we were raised in heaven once upon a wondrous time.
