When I was a little
Younger nine or ten
I once spoke to the silver
But I saw her again.

To me she out of the sky
She was born on the water
Her hair all around her
She was the man's only daughter.

I to see her every day
Riding her pony
Only did I hear her laugh
And it far and lonely.

Once I watched the run
And I wandered too far from
There I met the silver
She was crying, all alone.

I said, "lady, why are you
If I had like you
I would be flying this river
And like only birds do."

Well she threw back her head and she at me
Her tears, how they in the sun
She said, "i no wings to fly with
If I did I would be gone.

"my have all gone far away
To follow hearts and be free
But I am the and my father is ageing
And all he's got is me.

"i my father dearly
Madman he may be
It would break his if I should leave him
But life is killing me.

"i the ocean pulling me
The breezes come and tell me
I want to go with them wherever go
And see the new morning brings."

So she sadly turned away me
So I stumbled my way home
The next day I heard she had taken her
And gone off to unknown.

Her stayed inside his lonely house
And he never more came town
He be seen roaming the riverside
And they say he jumped in and drowned.

though I waited, she never returned
But when I felt a silver
I knew she had it from wherever she was
To us that now she was free.
