When I was a girl
Younger nine or ten
I spoke to the silver lady
But I saw her again.

To me she out of the sky
She was born riding on the
Her hair all around her
She was the crazy man's daughter.

I to see her every day
her golden pony
Only did I hear her laugh
And it far and lonely.

Once I the river run
And I too far from home
There I met the lady
She was crying, all alone.

I said, "lady, why are you
If I had like you
I would be flying over this
And singing like only do."

she threw back her head and she smiled at me
Her tears, how shone in the sun
She said, "i have no wings to fly
If I did I surely be gone.

"my brothers have all gone far
To follow their hearts and be
But I am the youngest and my is ageing
And all got left is me.

"i my father dearly
though he may be
It would his heart if I should leave him
But this life is me.

"i feel the ocean me
The breezes come and tell me
I want to go with them they go
And see the new morning brings."

So she turned away from me
So I stumbled my way home
The day I heard she had taken her horse
And gone off to unknown.

Her father stayed inside his house
And he never more came into
He could be seen the riverside
And they say he jumped in and drowned.

though I waited, she never returned
But I felt a silver breeze
I knew she had sent it from she was
To tell us now she was free.
