Two Prayers

Mamma always walked in just around midnight
couldn't catch a wink, till her boy was fast asleep
Daddy always said, "Let me know before you go to bed"
I just wanna say goodnight,
and make sure everything's alright

And then he prayers, "Jesus, this is my boy here,
but I can't protect him from what lies ahead
but he's got a good head on his shoulders
be there as he grows older now I pray,
pray that he'll make it out okay"

Pappa grabs the flashlight to brighten up this dark night
wants to take a walk, senses that it's time to talk
talkin on the phone, mamma knows her boy feels so alone
he's been havin' quite a day, so she asks if they can pray

And then she says, "Jesus, my baby is struggling,
yeah he's in quite a trial, it may last a little while,
but I pray he makes it out alright, oh Lord, please guard him through this night"

Baby's gone to college now he's living on his own
but he knows not alone
Mom and dad, they're waiting back at home
