Blue BMX wheels
Through those Georgia fields

Just a boy with daily joy reborn

Explorin' old dirt roads

'Til I began to slow

When I happened 'pon a patch of thorns

Rode on home and grabbed my Louisville Slugger bat

Started forging on through the spikey stalks

Before the end of the day it was my hideaway

A winding path that no one else dared walk

And in those days

I found my peace in a maze

Seeking shelter
From life's little storms

It was a hiding place

For all my childish ways

I found my solace
In a patch of thorns

Wolf at the door, collectors clamor for more

Those simple childhood days I mourn

But I put those things away, get on my knees and pray

As I take shelter in His crown of thorns

But I'm beyond the days of running away

A hint of God's grace and I can lift my face

Man up and live to fight another day
