A poor orphan girl Maria
Was walking to one day

But for one ragged bird in a cage
Maria had nothing to

She till just before midnight
So no one see her go in
And crying she by the manger
For her was unworthy of Him

Then the spoke to her through the darkness
"Maria, brings you to me
If the bird in the is your offering
the door and let me see"

she trembled, she did as He ask her
And out of the cage the flew
Soaring up into the
On a wing that had healed as new

Just then the midnight rang out
And the little bird to sing
A that no words could recapture
Whose was fit for a king

Now Maria felt just to listen
To cascade of notes sweet and long
As her offering was to Heaven
By the first nightingale's song
