May Healing Begin

darkness came and laid us low
cries went up, as loved ones fell
our nation mourned, and we endured
and though we will never forget
may healing begin

such times as these, amid great loss
we search for answers that bring peace and certainty
though hard to find, come quietly
and though we will never forget
may healing begin

for though in throes of sorrow
we must remember all those
brave souls who sacrificed while heeding call
may their courage ever guide us
and inspire us to find the
strength we need that we may carry on----

this solemn ground, does give us pause
to reflect on things important to us all
their memory, in heart we keep
and though we will never forget
