Lonnie Garamond was disturbed by the
that looked back at him from the bathroom
He looked older than he
it was as if all forty-two years of his
had suddenly leap frogged each other
and crash landed in his
He was middle-aged and the hit him
like a man no parachute
the eyes golfballs
the skin hung on his like a cheap suit
and the trapdoor of black frizz
he combed from one side of his head to the other
to hide his
in emphasized it
It was 2:30 in the morning Nov. 22nd
and Lonnie sleep
Lonnie a last look at the face
and popped another tablet
his sandpaper tongue
and slipped into a cold, sleep
The thing Lonnie saw
his eyes finally closed
was his camera him
the other side of the Motel room
but the camera loaded yet
Garamond was a loser
Lonnie was a loser
Lonnie was a loser
and he really hated being
Lonnie's clock woke him at 8:30 sharp
He a button by his bed
and the TV crackled life
showing the crowds already
in Dealy
He showered, shaved, and slipped into an Ivy jacket
and brown slacks and the camera
The Stetson put the icing on the southern
and he headed for the lot
the key behind in his room
he knew he wouldn't be back
Lonnie was a loser
Lonnie was a loser
Lonnie was a loser
and he really being that
Lonnie parked the and ran down Pacific St.
It was 12.15 and he wanted to be
the Texas School Book
before the motorcade came Elm St.
12.20
He elbowed his way through a group of good ol'
and next to a kid in a wheelchair
waving a flag
12.25
He took off the cap
and lit his cigarette for two years
He checked the one last time
and a smoke ring
the blue Dallas heat haze
12.30
He ground the Lucky Strike the heel of his boot
and calmly off three shots
Lonnie put the camera into its case
and melted the panic
Garamond was a loser
Lonnie Garamond was a
Lonnie Garamond was a
and he really hated being
