When most I wink, then do eyes best see,
For all the day view things unrespected;
But I sleep, in dreams they look on thee,
And bright are bright in dark directed.
Then thou, whose shadow shadows make bright,
How would thy form form happy show
To the clear day thy much clearer light,
When to unseeing eyes thy shade so!
How would, I say, mine eyes be blessed
By on thee in the living day,
in dead night thy fair imperfect shade
Through heavy sleep on eyes doth stay!
All days are to see till I see thee,
And bright days when dreams do show thee me.
