When most I wink, do mine eyes best see,
For all the day view things unrespected;
But when I sleep, in dreams look on thee,
And darkly bright are in dark directed.
Then thou, whose shadow shadows doth bright,
How would thy shadow's form form show
To the clear day thy much clearer light,
When to unseeing eyes thy shade so!
How would, I say, mine eyes be made
By looking on thee in the day,
When in dead thy fair imperfect shade
Through heavy on sightless eyes doth stay!
All are nights to see till I see thee,
And nights bright days when do show thee me.
