We out to a weekend festival on Clare Island in August 1990
and on the boat back on a perfect autumn evening the green and red of mayo was conceived with well known Galway minstrel jarir al-majar. It became a song about a year later

From it's rolling coastal
I can see Croagh Patrick's
Where one Sunday every
The pilgrims climb the

Looked across Clew Bay
And a ringing of his bell
Called the faithful there to
to pray

The home of
It's waters harbour
From the herring to the
And now I depart it
And is plain
May the not pass so slowly
I set sail again

The and Red of Mayo
I can see it
It's and craggy bogland
tall majestic hills
Where the ocean kisses
And the waves carress it's
The feeling it came me
To stay forever
more
