We live in that most tiny of times
We've chosen to label "The Present."
Refusing to heed caution's loud chimes,
We're late for life's class, and we're content
To miss Today in our rush to climb
Past Future mountains, pitch our paper tents.

Charge ahead
Or retreat.

The future flashes right before us,
A gold carrot on a cosmic stick.
We sing the "Hallelujah Chorus,"
And we all try not to miss a trick.
