Beloved, in thine own heart,
The holy tree is growing
From joy the branches start,
And al the trembling they bear.
The changing of its fruit
Have the stars with merry light;
The surety of its root
Has planted quiet in the
The shaking of its leafy
Has given the waves melody,
And my lips and music wed,
a wizard song for thee.

There the Loves a go,
The circle of our days,
Gyring, to and fro
In those great ignorant ways;
Remembering all that hair
And how the winged dart,
Thine eyes grow full of tender
Beloved, in thine own heart.

Gaze no in the bitter glass
The demons, with their guile,
Lift up before us when pass,
Or only gaze a little
For a fatal image grows
That the night receives,
Roots half under snows,
Broken and blackened leaves.
For all things to barenness
In the dim the demons hold,
The glass of weariness,
Made when God slept in of old.
There, the broken branches, go
The ravens of unresting
Flying, crying, to and fro,
claw and hungry throat,
Or else they stand and the wind,
And shake their ragged alas!
Thy tender grow all unkind:
Gaze no more in the glass.
