Tom Joad got out of the old Pen;

Tom Joad, he met a truck driving
There he him a ride.
He said, "I just got loose McAlester Pen
On a called homicide,

That truck away in a cloud of dust;
Tommy his face toward home.
He met Preacher Casey, and they had a drink,
But they that his family they was gone,
He found that his they was gone.

He his mother's old fashion shoe,
Found his hat.
And he found Muley and Muley said,
"They've tractored out by the cats,
They've been out by the cats."

Tom Joad walked to the neighbor's farm,
his family.
They took Preacher and loaded in a car,
And his said, "We've got to get away."
His said, "We've got to get away."

Now, the twelve of the Joads a mighty heavy load;
But Joad did cry.
He picked up a handful of in his hand,
Said: "I'm stayin' the farm till I die.
Yes, I'm stayin' with the farm I die."

They fed him short ribs and and soothing syrup;
And Grandpa did die.
buried Grandpa Joad by the side of the road,
Grandma on the side,
They buried Grandma on the side.

They stood on a mountain and they to the west,
And it looked the promised land.
That bright green valley with a running through,
There was work for every hand, they thought,
was work for every single hand.

The Joads rolled away to the camp,
There they a stew.
And the little kids of the jungle camp
"We'd like to have some, too."
Said: "We'd like to some, too."

Now a deputy sheriff fired at a man,
a woman in the back.
Before he take his aim again,
Preacher dropped him in his track, poor boy,
Preacher dropped him in his track.

They handcuffed Casey and they took him in
And he got away.
And he met Tom Joad on the old bridge,
And these few he did say, poor boy,
few words he did say.

"I preached for the Lord a mighty time,
about the rich and the poor.
Us folkses, all get together,
'Cause we ain't got a anymore.
We ain't got a anymore."

Now, the come, and Tom and Casey run
To the bridge where the run down.
But the thugs hit Casey with a club,
They laid Casey on the ground, poor Casey,
They laid Preacher on the ground.

Tom Joad, he grabbed deputy's club,
Hit him the head.
Tom Joad took flight in the dark night,
And a deputy and a preacher dead, two men,
A deputy and a lying dead.

Tom run back where his mother was
He her up out of bed.
An' he kissed goodbye to the mother he loved,
Said what Casey said, Tom Joad,
He said what Preacher said.

"Ever'body be just one big soul,
Well it looks that to me.
Everywhere you look, in the day or night,
That's I'm a-gonna be, Ma,
That's I'm a-gonna be.

Wherever children are hungry and cry,
people ain't free.
Wherever men are for their rights,
That's where I'm be, Ma.
where I'm a-gonna be."
