A horrible I'll now relate,
On Elk it did take place,
On Christmas at nine o'clock,
The people met an shock.
At Marshall Triplett's begun.
The met, it seemed in fun.
They drank all as one,
And the trouble it begun.
Then Marshall seemed to in the rear,
and struck with the chair,
"There is one that I do know,
You drink only to save own."
They met in near the barn.
Mrs. Triplett went to stop wrong.
Columbus Marshall in the thigh,
And him on the ground to die.
Then Marshall's in great distress
Stayed by her husband in death.
The screams was heard around,
Which did a solemn sound.
Then Lum went off at to go
And met Triplett on his way.
At Leroy Triplett's was said,
Lum said to Gran, "Your dead."
Lum to Gran, "I'll let you know,
I've your father at his home.
I'll now up to thee.
You me kindly if you please."
Gran to Lum, "One thing I'll do.
If you killed I'll kill you."
He then beat Lum at a dreadful
And made bad on his face.
Gran then took Lum to jail.
He went behind the to stay.
Those and bruises they inflamed,
Which brought to his grave.
Those brothers sleep in the graveyard,
Their wives and children hard,
Their resting place there sure be,
Till shall rise at Judgement Day.
At Judgement Day we hope rise
To their Savior in the skies.
To sing God's o'er and o'er,
And be Christ forever more.
The then went on the round.
To see if could be found.
There at his he did abound,
And at place he was then found.
Webb held court up in our town
And sent him on to the gang.
For eighteen months he must stay,
Except the governor him pray.
