In my memory I will see
the town that I have loved so
where our school played ball by the gasyard
and we laughed the smoke and the smell.
Going home in the rain running up the dark
past the jail and down behind the
were happy days in so many many ways
in the town I so well.

In the morning the shirt-factory horn
called from Craigeen the Moor and the Bog
while the man on the dole the mother`s role
fed the children and then the dogs.
And when times got tough was just about enough
but they saw it without complaining
for deep inside was a burning
for the town I so well.

There was music there in the air
like a language that we all could
I remember the day when I earned my pay
as I played in the small band.
There I my youth and to tell you the truth
I was sad to leave it all me
for I`d learned life and I`ve found me a wife
in the town I so well.

But I returned how my eyes have burned
to see how a town be brought ti its knees
by the armored cars and the bars
and the gas that on to every breeze.
Now the army`s installed by that old wall
and the barbwire gets high and higher
with their tanks and their guns, oh my god have they done
to the I loved so well.

Now the music`s gone but they still on
for their spirit`s bruised but never broken
they not forget for their hearts are all set
on tomorrow and peace again.
For what`s done is and what`s won is won
and what`s lost is lost and gone
I can pray for a bright brand-new day
in the I loved so well.
