He awoke one morning, papaw took him hunting
As he did each year when the leaves were falling
That day was different, cause off in the distance
Was a strange new face never seen before
At once his instinct took control

Before he let it go papaw said

Spear fishin' at the Big Bend
Huntin' for the buffalo,
Living off our sacred land
Sneakin' through the redwoods
Trapin' with my bare hands
Bring a deer home for the tribe

Chitimacha Tribe and the Coos
Seminole, Navajo, Aztec, Arapaho
Omaha, Zuni and the Sioux

Embers of our past burn in the morning fire
Today's so different, everything has changed
What we now face is not the same
