THERE came to the beach a exile of Erin.
The dew on his thin robe was and chill;
For his country he sighed, at twilight reparing.

"Erin, my country ! sad and forsaken,
In dreams I revisit thy sea beaten
But alas ! in a far foreign I awaken,

O! cruel fate ! wilt thou replace me
In a of peace where no perils can chase me?
Never again shall my embrace me.
They died to me, or live to deplore.

Sisters and sire, did you weep for its

O! my sad heart! abandoned by pleasure,
Why did it on fast-fading treasure?
Tears, like the rain-drops, may with-out measure,
But rapture and they cannot recall.

"Yet all its sad suppressing,
One dying wish my lone can draw
Erin! an exile thee his blessing!
