Bill Thaxton was an
One of the by far
said that old Bill was the fastest man ever
To pin on a Ranger's
Stories him were legend
Bill was the best of the
Bad men all him way back in his day
But he was now old

Into Bill's town an outlaw
He wore his gun low and tied
He reined in his and announced to the crowd
"If you to me call me Sundown"
His were all dark and fancy
And by a black leather vest
Somebody asked how he came by his
And if he was one of the best.

The eyes of the tall narrowed
He grinned like the possessed
"I never fight the sun's going down
And my back is the West"

he wouldn't be with us tomorrow
He rode in for one thing
He stopped by to make Bill Thaxton die
So he add to his fame.
"Go give Thaxton a message
And him a killer's in town
him we'll meet at the end of the street
Just as the going down"

Somebody said it had been
Since old Bill had a gun
Sundown replied it wasn't his hide
old Bill would be fun
The old sent back his answer
"Tell him I'm on my way
I've ran and I'll meet this young man
At any of the day"

Bill got there just sunset
It hung like fire in the sky
In a few moments out there in the street
Old or the outlaw would die

Slowly Bill from the saddle
And started to his advance
The sun hit the old square in the eyes
The shadows had started to
Bill started talking to
Judging his distance way
Their stride was the same and at just feet
of the men made their play

Bill's gun slipped leather lightning
His spoke with a whine
The sun didn't bother Bill at all
the old ranger was blind
Six shots delivered message
The Ranger had his gun
Old Bill a sigh when there was no reply
He that once more he had won

The old lowered his six gun
He stood there staring ahead
Watching think that old Bill didn't know
In of him Sundown lay dead

has been gone for a long time
But old timers still can
The day the old Ranger stood up to the
And proved he was best of all
