Bill was an ex-Ranger
One of the by far
It's that old Bill was the fastest man ever
To pin on a Ranger's
about him were legend
Bill was the best of the
Bad men all feared him way in his day
But he was now old

Into town rode an outlaw
He wore his gun low and down
He reined in his and announced to the crowd
"If you to me call me Sundown"
His clothes were all and fancy
And topped by a black leather
Somebody how he came by his name
And if he was one of the best.

The eyes of the tall stranger
He grinned the devil possessed
"I never till the sun's going down
And my back is the West"

he wouldn't be with us tomorrow
He rode in for one thing
He only stopped by to make Bill die
So he add to his fame.
"Go give Thaxton a message
And him a killer's in town
Tell him we'll at the end of the street
Just as the sun's down"

Somebody said it had years
Since old had toted a gun
replied that it wasn't his hide
Killing old Bill be fun
The old sent back his answer
"Tell him I'm on my way
I've never ran and I'll meet this man
At any of the day"

Bill got there about sunset
It still like fire in the sky
In just a few moments out there in the
Old or the outlaw would die

Slowly Bill slid from the
And started to make his
The sun hit the old Ranger in the eyes
The had started to dance
Bill started talking to
Judging his distance way
Their stride was the and at just thirty feet
Both of the men their play

Bill's gun slipped leather like
His forty-four spoke with a
The sun bother Bill Thaxton at all
the old ranger was blind
Six shots delivered their
The had emptied his gun
Old Bill gave a sigh when was no reply
He knew once more he had won

The old lowered his six gun
He just stood staring ahead
Watching you'd think that old didn't know
In front of him Sundown lay

has been gone for a long time
But old timers still can
The day the old stood up to the test
And he was best of them all
