Staying Gone

Everytime she walked out
She just ran back
He was a smooth talker from day one
Always vowing how he'd get his life back on track
And buying time with presents for their son

Everytime she washed his clothes
She made her plan
He'd raise a hand against her if he knew
One night he went for bread
She went for broke
She had her mother waiting
Hiding out of view

She took only the boy
And the clothes they had on
Praying she find a way
Of staying gone

She's staying gone
She's never going back
The chain around her heart
Has finally broken
And it takes a lot of courage
To start a life anew
But the bravest thing she'll ever do

Everytime he called her up
She caught her breath
And listened to him twisting up her mind
She knew she had to save what was there left
So she put her finger down, cut off the line

She took the road out of town

When old memories beg her to come back around
