Near Town in the County Down
One morning last
Down a boreen came a sweet colleen
And she as she passed me by.
She looked so sweet her two bare feet
To the sheen of her hair
Sure the elf, I'd to shake myself
To be sure I was standing

As she onward sped, sure I my head
And I gazed with a feeling
And I says, says I, to a
Who's the maid with the nut-brown
He smiled at me and he says, he,
the gem of Ireland's crown,
Miss McCann
the banks of the Bann,
She's the Star of the Down.

Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay
And from to Dublin town
No maid seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County
From Bay up to Derry Quay
And from to Dublin town
No I've seen like the brown colleen
That I met in the County

She'd a soft eye and a look so sly
And a smile a rose in June
And you hung on note
from her throat
As she an Irish tune
At the pattern you were held in a trance
As she kicked a reel or a jig
And her eyes she'd roll,
She lick your soul
A heart she would steal

From Bay up to Derry Quay
And from Galway to town
No maid seen like the sweet Colleen
I met in the County Down
From Bay up to Derry Quay
And from Galway to Dublin
No maid seen like the sweet Colleen
That I met in the County
