RIPTIDE

She said, you know how it feels
when some things make you cry,
and how it comforts and heals
when some things make you smile,
and how there's no fightin' the pull
when you're caught in a riptide?

And then she swam right out
into the danger and she said,

And, I don't want to know
what comes after you've gone.
That thought haunts me like a ghost ship
that's empty and sails on
adrift, chasin' the moonlight,
as the waves rise and yawn.
Though that rhythm now beckons
to pull me along,
I don't want to know
what comes after you're gone.

So, now I'm searchin' for rescue,
and I'm searchin' for light.
Yeah, these waters,
they'll test you to do what you might.
And, if you're doin' your best
I guess you're doin' alright,
but if you're needin' a rest,
just swim to the side,
