Pretend Forevers

We had a few good years, maybe 2 or 10 or 63.
But the truth is, this will all come to an end.
Now we can pretend, in forevers,
If this keeps our souls on the mend

We can buy batteries, for our flashlights,
Or just let the candle lead the way.
And we can pretend, in forevers
And live in true love, for today.

But if we truly count our blessings,
And float along with the oceans tide.
It's either goodbye or it's good bye,
I'll see you across town or on the other side.

As our hair changes colors,
As to the leaves and the trees of the fall.
And we proudly, display our collections,
But really, it's you and me, that's all

Knowing this will all, simply fade.
And one day they'll, break up our possessions,
Throw away the mattress where we laid.
