Once was a little tailor boy
About years of age;
My father me to a miller
That I learn the trade.

I fell in love a Knoxville girl,
Her was Flora Dean.
Her rosy cheeks, her hair,
I did admire.

Her father he me
To take for a wife;
The devil he me
To take life.

Up her mother so bold and gay,
So boldly she did
Johnny dear, go her
And her off my hands.

I unto her father's house
nine o'clock at night,
A-asking her to a walk
To do prively talk.

We had not got so far
looking around and around,
He stooping down picked up a
And knocks Flora down.

She upon her bended knees,
For she did cry:
O Johnny dear, murder me,
For I'm not fit to die.

I her by her lily-white hands
A-slung her and around;
I her off to the river-side,
And her in to drown.

I returned to my miller's house
nine o'clock at night,
But little did my miller
What I had about.

The miller turned and about,
Said:" Johnny, what your clothes?"
Me so apt to take a hint:
By at the nose.

About nine or ten after that,
Little she was found
A-floating down by her house
Who in Knoxville town.
