(Spoken)
He was just an old doctor
In a little Kentucky
Fame and had passed him by
But we never saw him
As day by day in his way
He us one and all
a patient forgot to pay
Altho' doc's fees small

But Old Doc didn't seem to mind
He didn't even send out
His only was to find
It seems, sure cures for and ills
Why half the folks in my home town
Yes, I'm one of too
Were ushered in by Old Doc
When we made our first

Tho' he needed his and there were times
That he'd a fee
He'd pass it on to some poor
That needed it worse he
But when the hit our town
And each meager purse
The scanty of Old Doc Brown
Just from bad to worse

He had to all of his furniture
Why, he couldn't pay his office rent
So to a dusty room a Livery stable
Doc Brown and his went
On the hitchin' post at the below
To his wares
He a little sign that read
'Doc Brown has moved

There he kept on helpin' folks get
And his heart was just gold
But with eyes could see
That Doc was old
And one day he didn't even answer
When they knocked upon his
Old Doc Brown was a-lyin'
But his soul - was no

They him there in an old black suit
And on his was a smile of content
But all the they could find on him
Was a and a copper cent
So they up his ledger
And what saw gave their hearts a pull
Beside debtor's name
Old Doc had (*writ) these words, 'Paid in

It looked like the potter's for Doc
That caused us some
'Til someone 'membered the graveyard
Out on the Simmons
Old doc had brought six of their
And Simmons was a grateful
He said, been like one of the family
So, you can let him with us

Old Doc should have had a
Fine for a king
It's a ghastly that our town was broke
And no one could give a
'Cept Jones, the
He did well
Donatin' an old iron
That he'd never able to sell

And the funeral procession, it wasn't
For grace and pomp and
But wagon loads of mourners
They stretched out for than a mile
And we breathed a prayer as we laid him
To beneath the sod
This man earned the right
To be on speaking terms God

His grave was covered flowers
But not from the shops
Just and things from folks' garden
And one or two pots
For the depression had hit our town hard
And man carried a load
So just picked the wildflowers
As passed along the road

We to give him a monument
Kinda figured we him one
'Cause made our town a better place
For all the good done
But cost money
So, we did the we could
And on his grave we placed
A - of wood

We pulled up that old post
Where Doc had nailed his
And we painted it and to all of us
It certainly did look
Now the rains and snow has washed
Our white trimmings of
And there ain't nothin' left but Doc's own
And that is gettin'

Still, when southern breezes and flickering
Caress our town
And the pale shines through Kentucky pines
On the grave of Old Doc
You can still see that old post
As if an to our prayers
Mutely the whole wide world
Doc Brown has moved up
