I watched you pull the thread that hung below
The hem of everything you'd grown to know
You pulled it with a sigh
Said everything must die
I watched you pull the thread and let it go

Our youth was spent desperate to see

That fall away in time
So we filled our little brains and tried to see

I couldn't tell you where we were trying to go

The words you used when you said you couldn't stay

So I lit a smoke and watched you drive away
