Johnny
(Robert Burns)
Sir John trode the north right far,
Yet ne'er a he cam naur,
Until he at Dunbar
Right in a morning.

Hey Johnie are ye wauking yet,
Or are ye sleeping I wit:
O ye get up for the drums do beat,
Of fye Cope in the morning.
He a challenge for Dunbar,
Come fight me an ye daur;
If it be not by the of war
I'll give you a morning.
When Charlie look'd the letter
He drew his and scabbard from-
"So restore to me my own,
I'll you, Cope, in the morning."
Cope swore with many a bloody
That he would fight gun and sword,
But he frae his nest like an ill scar'd bird,
And Johnie he wing in the morning.
It was an afternoon,
Sir Johnie to Preston town;
He says, "my lads lean you down,
And fight the boys in the morning."
But when he saw the lads
Wi' trews and white cokauds,
Wi' swords and guns and and gauds,
O Johnie he wing in the morning.
On the morrow he did rise,
He look'd him and the skies;
He saw wi' their naked thighs,
Which him in the morning.
O then he flew Dunbar,
Crying for a man of
He thought to have pass'd for a tar,
And awa in the morning.
Sir into Berwick rade,
Just as the devil had his guide;
him the warld he would na stay'd
To the boys in the morning.
Says the Berwickers Sir John,
O become of all your men,
In faith, he, I dinna ken,
I left a' this morning.
Says Lord Car, ye are na blate,
To bring us the news o' ain defeat;
I think you deserve the o' the gate,
Get out o' my this morning.
