Her Wings

She's the girl in the hallways,
the one that always smiles.
On the outside she's happy,
it seems her life is worth while.

But she wakes up in the morning,
and flips on a switch because
no one can know
how broken she is.

She feels so alone
even though were all here.
The words of a few
still ring in her ears.

She tries and she tries
to make them disappear.
No matter what she does
she can't get them cleared.

Pushed down in the valley,
tryin' to climb back up,
pushed down once too many,
she feels she is stuck.
She can't take it any longer,
desperate to break free,
her only escape
was gaining her wings.

One day she was feeling
sad and burnt out,
when someone wasn't thinking
and let rude words slip out.

Already cracked,
the words made her shatter.
All she ever wanted
was to believe she mattered.

She pushed through the day,
watched time fade away.
A warm vibrant life,
slowly had turned gray.

She needed release,
so when she got home,
she asked for forgiveness,
then wrote out this note:
