Then mounted on gleesome wing,
O'er hill and dale she flew,
Ilk burn, ilk crystal spring,
Ilk glen and she knew, man
She summon'd social sprite,
That by wood or water,
On th' bonie of Ayr to meet,
And keep this Champetre.
Cauld Boreas, wi his crew
Were bound to stakes kye, man;
And ear, o silver fu,
Clamb up the starry sky,
Reflected dwell in the streams,
Or the current shatter;
The western steals through the trees
To view this Champetre.
How many a robe sae floats,
sparkling jewels glance, man,
To harmony's notes,
As moves the dance, man!
The echoing wood, the flood,
Like did glitter,
When angels met at yett
To hold Fete Champetre.
When Politics there, to mix
And his ether-stane, man,
He circled the magic ground,
But entrance he nane, man:
He blush'd for shame, he his name,
