In the days following September 11th last
Everybody that was a or a writer or a song writer of any kind
Had a reason to some words down

And I was no different than anybody

And my father in the army in the 50's
He his eye in a training combat mission
He came home, he put a up at the farm I was raised on

I lost him six months prior to the attacks on New York
And the States and that flag
Flew out in that yard, it's flown there
He raised me right an' he never bitched one time losing his eye

Never him cry about it one time
He was glad to go, do it, that's why we're today
And it's our turn to stand on our fathers and forefathers did for us
And make sure we let 'em down

I wrote a song in the following days September 11th
It's called the American
