Bridge on Fire

Early in the morning he looked in the yard
The boy came running because the bridge was on fire
He'd gone to wake her when he finally saw
His baby was on the other side
Baby was on the otherside

Everything around him glowing in the light
He called, called
Fetch the water

Baby like a moth enamored with the light
Watched it beam by beam ignite
Praying with an exhilerating fright
The gale would double up in size

Boy in his pajamas putting up a fight
Stumbling in the soil from his sleepy eyes
Worrying for his baby but she's alright
Oh why God was the bridge on fire?

When the beams came between the cliffs
Baby realized what she did
The fire that she lit
Meant more to her than any flame with him

Baby felt her feet start running in the night
Watching her go, calling "Oh bridge on fire"
Moonbeams reflecting in her eyes
The town awoke up in smoke, the bridge on fire

Young blood pumping, new and live
Sweeping her way through the coal black pines
When the morning breaks into light, you tell 'em all

That the bridge is on fire.

Now the boy's all alone in a house made of stone
