I was fifteen when my daddy died
Momma worked two jobs just to get by
It seemed like a blessing when Harley came around
So she took his name but I had my doubts

It didn't take long for his drinking ways
To start showin' up on Momma's face
One violent night hiding under my bed

Next day I followed him down to the river bank

Just so he could see the look on my face
He stood out a while and told a joke

I mighta pulled it out before he saw it
