Aves' Song

Hollow eyes and empty arms
A love left on a shelf
Forgiving all his selfish ways
But she can't forgive herself
A lone bird left in a cage
Found a place inside her mind
High above the pain she feels
High enough to find a ledge to take away them tears
And step away from peace
She prayed to hit the ground

Turns out she had wings
Turns out she could fly
She held her breath, took that step and opened up her eyes
She'd given up on her fragile heart
Hanging by a string
Gravity was not enough
Turns out she had wings

Touching down she looked around
And she didn't recognise
Shards of glass and shattered past she'd worked so hard to disguise
She saw herself, an empty shell
It all came back in flashes
She washed her hands, let go and rose up from the ashes

Turns out she had wings
Turns out she could fly
She held her breath, took that step and opened up her eyes
She'd given up on her fragile heart
Hanging by a string
Gravity was not enough
Turns out she had wings
Gravity was not enough
Turns out she had wings

Shadows grey below
Quiet in the light
Sweet chariots run low
In the velvet night
Little candle burning bright

Turns out she had wings
Turns out she could fly
She held her breath, took that step and opened up her eyes
She'd given up on her fragile heart
Hanging by a string
Gravity was not enough
Turns out she had wings
