Grandpa lay in the hospital dying
His young granddaughter by the bed
She tried to hide the tears she was crying
In her despair she hung her head
Grandpa looked at her so tenderly
He said daughter, don't you weep
If you'll come a little closer
I'll tell you what Jesus promised me
When I'm absent from the body
I'll be present with the Lord
After I've run this race

A look of peace was on his face
The girl heard music in the distance
As someone sang Amazing Grace
Her mind was drifting to some time ago
And memories of better days
Through her tears these words came to her lips
As her Grandpa slipped away
Now you're absent from the body
I know you're present with the Lord
Now that you've run this race
What's it like to see Jesus' face?

For peace and joy on another shore
