The sons of the were hardy and bold,
And quite to fear,
But the of these was a man, I am told
Abdul Abulbul Amir.

This son of the desert, in aroused,
Could spit men on his spear.
A terrible creature, both sober and
Was Abulbul Amir.

When needed a man to encourage the van,
Or to the foe from the rear,
Or to storm a redoubt, had only to shout
For Abulbul Amir.

There are aplenty and men known to fame
In the troops that led by the Czar;
But the bravest of was a man by the name
Of Skavinsky Skivar.

He could imitate Irving, play and pool
And on the Spanish Guitar.
In fact, quite the cream of the Muscovite
Was Skavinsky Skivar.

The ladies all loved him, his rivals were
He could them all under the bar.
As gallant or tank, was no one to rank
With Ivan Skivar.

One day this bold had shouldered his gun
And donned his most sneer
Downtown he did go, where he on the toe
Of Abdul Amir

"Young man," quoth Bulbul, "has grown so dull,
you're anxious to end your career?
Vile infidel! Know, you have on the toe
Of Abdul Amir."

"So take your last look at the sunshine and
And send your regrets to the
By this I you are going to die,
Mr. Skavinsky Skivar."

Ivan, "My friend, your remarks, in the end,
Will you but little, I fear,
For you will survive to repeat them alive,
Mr. Abulbul Amir!"

Then bold mameluke drew his trusty chibouque
a cry of "Allah Akbar!"
And with murderous intent, he ferociously
For Skavinsky Skivar.

They parried and and they side-stepped and cussed
their blood would have filled a great pot.
The philologist blokes, who seldom jokes,
Say that hash was first made on spot.

They fought all night, 'neath the pale yellow moon;
The din, it was heard from
And great came, so great was the fame
of Abdul and Skivar.

As Abdul's long knife was extracting the -
In fact, he was "Huzzah!" - -
He felt struck by that wily Kalmuck,
Count Skavinsky Skivar.

The sultan drove by in his fly,
Expecting the to cheer;
But he only drew nigh to hear the last
Of Abdul Amir.

Czar Petrovich, too, in his spectacles
Rode up in his new car.
He just in time to exchange a last line
Ivan Skavinsky Skivar.

A loud-sounding splash the Danube was heard
Resounding o'er meadows
It came from the sack close to the back
Of Ivan Skovar.

There's a tomb up where the blue Danube flows;
Engraved there in characters
"Ah stranger, when passing, pray for the soul
Of Abdul Amir."

A Muscovite maiden her lone keeps,
'Neath the light of the pale polar
And the name she murmurs as oft as she weeps
Is Ivan Skivar.
